On April 4, 2014 in a formal ceremony in Washington D.C., BAWAR was the recipient of the Director’s Community Leadership Award from FBI San Francisco. The award was for the work done in Oakland and Alameda county by BAWAR’s SEM program to combat sex trafficking of minors and adults, and BAWAR is one of 56 agencies nationwide to be recognized for their hard work in education and preventing crime and violence. This award could not have been accomplished without our numerous community partners, Oakland Unite, Cross Bay Collaborative, law enforcement, the district attorney’s office, and concerned citizens. For coverage of the event, see the FBI press release and Oakland Unite’s website. To learn more about BAWAR’s SEM proram, visit bawarsem.org.
